The cause of Acne and whether IPL provides a solution?

For weeks you have been preparing for tomorrow night’s big event, and all of sudden you notice a breakout of acne on your face! Have you ever wondered where acne comes from?  Your mother may have told you that it comes from consuming foods that are high in sugar or fat, or from not washing your face. However, many people are surprised to find out that neither of these factors are a cause of acne.

The actual cause of acne is the body’s increased production of the hormone androgen, a hormone produced by both men and women. The androgen hormone stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more oil causing the pores in the skin to become blocked preventing the oil from coming up to the surface of the skin. Acne, an infection caused by skin bacteria, directly feeds on and breaks down the trapped oil in the skin. As the bacteria increase, waste products and sebatic acid are created, and the sebaceous gland becomes inflamed – causing what you know see on your face as a blackhead, a whitehead or pimple.

The days of stressing about a potential break-out on your big day are now over? With a simple course of IPL treatments, within 15 minutes per week for three to four weeks, acne is a thing of the past, and anyone with permanent acne can greatly benefit from this treatment!

The innovative and advanced IPL treatment filters light from a flash-lamp in two targeted ways to ensure that that only light with the appropriate wavelengths is allowed to reach your skin to prevent future acne.  As haemoglobin, which is the red pigment in blood, absorbs the light and heats up in the fine blood vessels that supply the sebaceous glands, it causes a minor injury to the sebaceous glands which decreases the overproduction of oil that leads to acne.

This solution to dealing with acne is easy and essentially painless. As any potentially harmful wavelengths are filtered out an IPL, you do not need to do anything in order to prepare for your session. However, it is important that in the weeks leading up to your appointment, you should avoid going into the sun as it is important to keep your skin as pale as possible. This is to prevent too much light from being absorbed by a darker complexion.

As no anaesthetics are required and individuals vary in their thresholds of pain, it is difficult to predict how much, if any, pain a particular individual client will feel when he or she receives the treatment. To date, patients describe a wide variety of sensations such as a slight pinch to how your skin feels after too much sun exposure.

Although there may be some redness on your skin after the treatment, people normally do not need any post-treatment care.  However, some people with more sensitive skin may ease any discomfort by applying ice or a prescribed ointment to the treatment area immediately after treatment. In the case that you have sun-damaged skin, some of the pigmented spots may become darker, but they will eventually disappear.

IPL treatments for excessive facial and body hair

When looking at treatments for excessive facial and body hair, what are the issues and how effective are Intense Pulsed Light treatments?

For decades, women and men have been going to their beauty therapists, sometimes on a bi-weekly basis, to wax, thread and pluck their unwanted facial and body hair. Throughout their lives, these women and men will spend countless hours and thousands of pounds for temporary solutions to this embarrassing problem.

IPL laser hair removal (Intense Pulse Light), however, now makes these outdated practices a useless waste of time and money. IPL laser hair removal, which works with a safe filtered light, is a permanent solution for unwanted body and facial hair. With an average of 6-8 treatments, imagine not having to shave your underarms or legs, or have those embarrassing hairs on the chin and neck. Even for men, that unattractive hair on the shoulders and the back can be a thing of the past.

Read about Georgia’s experience, a 20-something female living in London, who recently began IPL treatments: “I started my IPL on my underarms back in April 2010, and after 4 treatments I am seeing visibly slower growth and patchiness under my arms. With a Middle Eastern background the hair under my arms and bikini is extremely course, dark and quite thick. I can't tell you how much IPL has saved me! The money spent each month is an investment in my eyes and my under arms love me for it! Next on the list is my bikini line... I pay £50 every 3-4 weeks on waxing so the extra for a life-long result is 100% worth it!

Stay online for my next instalment and the result on the run up to my 6th appointment after the 5th on Saturday.”

What is IPL and what cosmetic conditions can it treat?

In today’s society, the portrayal of flawless celebrities in the media has seen many beauty treatments and cosmetic procedures soar in popularity, as consumers strive to perfect their images.  As people go in pursuit of skin perfection, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments helps you address many of the cosmetic and aesthetic imperfections that can affect confidence, self-esteem and an overall sense of well-being. Most commonly, unwanted hair and conditions that affect the face can be among the most embarrassing.

Twenty years ago, treatments to combat these issues were traditionally associated with laser technology.  However, research and development has proven that Intense Pulsed Light produces an equally effective outcome, as well as being faster and less expensive. IPL works by emitting a broad spectrum of light via a specially constructed Xenon flash lamp and focussing optics.

This non-laser technology converts the light to heat energy spanning across a broader range of wavelengths; this yields benefits for a number of skin conditions and disorders including acne, thread veins and Rosacea, as well as achieving permanent hair reduction

As the pulses of light are short in duration, clients experience virtually no discomfort, although a minor sensation may occasionally be experienced in sensitive areas; but this subsides immediately.

Beauty professionals and medical experts now consider IPL to be one of the most effective ways to achieve skin perfection and address a number of skin issues, safely, cost efficiently and permanently. Skin clinics, medical experts, beauty salons and spas now utilise IPL technology and whilst celebrities have popularise treatments, every day people are overcoming conditions and boosting their self-esteem by having a simple course of treatments.
